The ultimate guide to marketing yourself as a coach (4 proven strategies)

No matter what stage you are at in your coaching practice, you need to know how to market yourself to get more opportunities and grow your business. And no, you don’t need to spend a lot of money just to get started. Focusing your efforts on free, proven strategies is enough to get started and even generate your first few thousand. Hi, this is Ajit Nawalkha, and today I’ll show you how to market yourself in order to grow your coaching business.

Oh, wait.

You can do that by clicking on the red subscribe button below, so you get a notification every time we publish a new video. Let’s talk about 4 proven strategies you can use to market yourself successfully and effectively. The first thing you want to do is embrace and express your added value.

What makes you different from all the other coaches? Think about it like a talent show for coaches. How would you make an impression? Ok, maybe not like that, but you get the point. Focus on the uncommon things you have to offer.

Identify your interests, talents, and passions, and how you could combine those elements together. It will also make you more clear and focused when it comes to communicating who you are and attracting the right clients for your coaching business. The second strategy is to share your wisdom. If you want to market yourself so well that your audience comes to you instead of you going to them, you must become their go-to person.

And to become a go-to person on a particular topic, you must demonstrate your expertise.

You don’t have to have tons of experience or knowledge to start, just get started based on what you do know and keep learning to get better and better at it. There are many ways you can share your wisdom and position yourself as an expert. If you enjoy writing, post articles on LinkedIn, or contribute to blog posts as much as you can. Make sure they are informative, valuable to readers, and include your own experiences and thoughts in them. Choose topics your audience is interested in and also bring out your expertise.

Here’s another idea. Did you know writers and journalists often as experts for quotes to include in their articles? Quotes from experts make any article stronger and more credible. And they reach a different audience that can widen your exposure. You want to be that expert.

How? By writing, and writing to make you searchable. This way, journalists can find you when they search for specific topics. And if you absolutely love writing, have more time and budget, you can also consider writing a book or whitepaper.

These are more advanced tools but just as effective to establish your expertise and reach out to a broader audience.

Do you write for your own blog or other platforms? Comment Yes! below if you are and share what’s your best advice for other coaches who want to get started on it as well. Now, let’s go to strategy number three. Build a community.

All these efforts to market yourself will mean nothing if you aren’t able to build a community. It’s like being a musician. You can record several songs and albums, but that won’t make you successful unless you have fans who listen to your music. You want to create a network of like-minded people in your field to connect with and support each other. Building relationships with other experts and master coaches can open up a lot of new possibilities for you.

For example, learning from their mistakes or connecting with their circles.

You also want to interact with people who resonate with you, your thought leadership, and who are interested in what you offer. Build your community by involving your followers in what you do. Become their trusted advisor. How can you be of service online or offline?

Maybe you can offer your skills to a local organization, coach people online, or find public speaking opportunities. Last but not least, be active on social media. Everyone knows if you’re thinking about marketing, social media is the place to be. Face-to-face interactions are great, but when you are finding it hard to access your potential clients, social media can help. If you want people to recognize you and see you as an authority in your field, you have to be able to reach out to the masses.

And social media can multiply your exposure exponentially. So be social savvy. Learn how to use social media tools such as Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, or whichever platform your target audience uses. These platforms are completely free and you don’t need to invest anything in advertising or video production if you’re just getting started.

As long as you’re delivering value and impact through social media for free, the how really doesn’t matter as much as the what.

So start sharing your wisdom via videos or texts. You’ll start attracting a fan base of people who resonate with you and building trust so they come to your expert advice every time they need it. Share your own articles or posts where you have been quoted. Or be a thought leader on topics relevant to your expertise. Make an effort to put your work out there, and make yourself be seen and heard.

There’s one more thing I want to share with you. The only person who knows how to best market yourself is you. Every word you say, and everything that you communicate and do, is a message to the world.

So make sure you protect yourself and your reputation by being intentional about the words you use and the actions you take. And the best way to do this is always being true to who you are and following your intuition.

My wish for you is that you explore these different opportunities - and even find some new ones - to start marketing yourself as a coach. My wish for you is that you keep serving others in every action and communication. This will always be the best way to make an impact and grow your coaching business.
